Striking images depict the consequences of a blaze in an abandoned residence in East Sussex.

Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at an abandoned residence on Kings Drive, Eastbourne around 12:50 AM on January 13.

The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service deployed fire teams from Eastbourne, Pevensey, and Hailsham, utilising an aerial ladder platform and hoses to extinguish the fire.

A representative stated: “Thermal imaging cameras were additionally employed to detect hotspots.” The matter was sent to Sussex Police.

“No casualties were reported.”

Firefighters terminated operations at 9 AM today; however, a reinspection of the building is scheduled to occur.

On the day of the fire, Eastbourne Borough Councillor David Small responded to the incident.

He stated: “It is dreadful to witness this site devastated by a fire that occurred shortly after midnight today.”

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, and significant commendation is due to the fire services from Eastbourne, Pevensey, and Hailsham for their prompt response, which effectively contained the fire.

“They were conducting a re-inspection during my visit to ascertain the cause.”

“It is widely known that this site was sold by the council to a developer in 2023, who intends to construct here.”

“This site must be secured promptly, and I will advocate for this action once the police and fire departments have completed their operations.”

Sussex Police request that witnesses of the fire at an abandoned residence come forward to aid with their investigation.

A spokesperson stated: “Law enforcement is currently collaborating with the fire department to ascertain the origin of the blaze, and officers are eager to interview anyone who may have observed the incident or noted any suspicious activity in the vicinity during that period.”

They are especially interested in hearing from individuals who may possess pertinent doorbell, dash cam, or CCTV footage.

“Information may be submitted online or by dialling 101, referencing serial 21 of 13/01.”
