Police responded to a disturbance incident on Priory Road, Hastings, on August 20, involving an argument between Lee Woods, the Hastings Domestic Abuser, and a woman.

Lee Woods, aged 31, severely abused and strangled her during this encounter.

The woman attempted to flee to the toilet, but he forcibly breached the door and assaulted her.

Lee Woods, who has no permanent residence, was apprehended on August 24 after attempting to elude law enforcement and subsequently charged with grievous bodily harm, intentional strangling, and criminal damage.

He admitted guilt to all three charges on August 28 at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.

On September 24 at Hove Crown Court, Lee Woods received a term of 40 months’ jail and a five-year restraining order against the woman.

Detective Constable Kieran Morris stated: “This was a horrific, prolonged assault on a solitary female.” The degree of abuse inflicted upon the victim was astonishing.

“I would like to praise the woman in her bravery in making this report and throughout the course of the investigation.

“This was dealt with swiftly with the commencement of the investigation to the date of conviction being just over 30 days, and that shows just how seriously we take cases of domestic abuse and violence against women and girls (VAWG).

“I would urge and encourage anyone experiencing domestic abuse to come forward, you will be supported and we remain committed to protecting all victims of domestic abuse and violence against women and girls.”
