A persistent and habitual Cinderford Sex Offender, Lewis Trenchard, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison for his recent criminal activities, which encompassed the sexual attack of a female neighbour, indecent exposure, stealing, and the verbal assault of a black police officer using racist epithets.

Lewis Trenchard, previously residing on Buckshaft Road, Cinderford, and currently located on Worcester Street, Gloucester, has an extensive criminal record comprising 70 charges prior to his last series of crimes in Sedbury and Cheltenham, as presented to Gloucester Crown Court.

The 23-year-old admitted guilt to charges of sexual assault, assault by beating, criminal damage, exposure, theft, and employing threatening and offensive behaviour with the aim to harass or alarm.

On April 10, 2021, Prosecutor Rhianna Fricker stated that Lewis Trenchard responded to the door when police arrived at a residence on Buttington Road, Sedbury.

Ms. Fricker stated, “He seemed to be extremely inebriated and unruly.” He was apprehended.

He began to vociferously utter racist epithets directed at the officers.

The charges commenced on January 18, 2021, while Trenchard resided in Cheltenham.

A female occupant of a different flat in the building was present at home when Lewis Trenchard, inebriated, began entering and exiting her residence during a period when Covid rules prohibited indoor gatherings.

During the encounter, he restrained her against the sofa and forcefully shoved his hips into her. His groin collided with her hips.

Subsequent to his eviction from the flat, the police received reports of Lewis Trenchard dashing into traffic.

Lewis Trenchard ascended the hood of a vehicle, but another individual subdued and dislodged him.

Ms. Fricker stated that the indecent exposure offence occurred shortly thereafter and again included the woman whom Trenchard had previously assaulted.

She was seated near her residence with companions and witnessed the road altercation. Lewis Trenchard subsequently approached her and revealed his genitalia multiple times, causing her significant discomfort. He subsequently struck the window of her flat, shattering it. He mocked the destruction he had caused and subsequently approached the same woman, placing his hand on her breasts.

Later that day, he was discovered in a local business with products concealed within his clothing.

Ms. Fricker stated that Lewis Trenchard’s prior convictions, commencing in 2015, encompassed 39 thefts, four instances of criminal damage, two charges of battery, one assault resulting in actual bodily harm, burglary, two counts of robbery, and one offence of being drunk and disorderly.

Thomas Griffiths, in defence, acknowledged, “This is a notably distasteful array of offences and a regrettable history of prior convictions.”

Mr. Griffiths stated that Lewis Trenchard had been misusing alcohol and drugs from a young age due to circumstances stemming from his tumultuous past.

Mr. Griffiths stated that Lewis Trenchard had been in custody on remand awaiting sentencing since May of the previous year, therefore having already served a time equivalent to 20 months in prison.

He requested the judge to contemplate imposing a term that would permit Lewis Trenchard to exit jail immediately and accept an opportunity for a new beginning in Bridgend.

Lewis Trenchard was eager to get free as quickly as possible to assist his mother, who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, he stated. Trenchard asserted that he would never absolve himself if he were unable to support his mother during her final days.

“He no longer desires to consume alcohol, as he recognises that one drink inevitably leads to ten and subsequent transgressions.”

Judge Lowe sentenced Lewis Trenchard to 28 months, indicating that while this would not result in his immediate release, he would be released from prison in the near future.

The judge stated that Lewis Trenchard’s personal issues and history did not justify his pattern of offences but provided context for them.

“I sincerely regret that your mother is unwell, and I fervently hope you will be permitted to visit her soon.”

In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a two-year restraining order prohibiting Trenchard from contacting the sexual assault victim in any manner.

He additionally instructed Lewis Trenchard to remit £264.64 in compensation for the damage to the flat.
