A 28-year-old Warrington Sex Offender, Liam Brodrick, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexually assaulting a young woman near Warrington Bank Quay station.

Liam Brodrick, 28, of Poplars Avenue, Warrington, was sentenced on Friday, May 2, at Liverpool Crown Court to nine years, consisting of six years in custody and three years on parole, after pleading guilty to two charges of sexual assault.

Liam Brodrick was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for an undetermined duration and a lifelong registration on the Sex Offenders Register. An indefinite restraining order was issued for the victim.

The court was informed that in the early hours of Sunday, January 28, 2024, Liam Brodrick established a friendship with a solitary 19-year-old woman. Following a brief discussion, they entered a takeaway establishment, and while exiting, the woman expressed her need to catch a train, bidding farewell to Liam Brodrick.

Liam Brodrick pursued her and accompanied her to Warrington Bank Quay station. Upon arriving at the closed station, Liam Brodrick extended his coat to the girl before they both seated themselves on the ground.

The victim awoke to discover Liam Brodrick perpetrating sexual assault against her.

She fled, but he summoned her back to request his coat.

Despite his best efforts to ensure no one was watching, the CCTV at the station had captured the whole thing.

The victim was spotted by police officers who she immediately reported the incident to. An officer had noted seeing him just moments earlier and he was arrested.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Melissa Catterall said: “Liam Brodrick knew what he was doing and took advantage of a lone woman who believed he was trying to help her but was only looking to serve his own sexual gratification.

“Liam Brodrick’s actions are disgusting and abhorrent, and I’m grateful to see the sentence handed down. There is zero-tolerance for sexual offences on the rail network and we will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.”
