Lloyd Ellis, An outdoor education teacher who was convicted for sexual activity with a pupil has been permanently banned from teaching. The former teacher at the Rocester school, which is near Uttoxeter, is alleged to have committed the offences over a three-month period

Lloyd Ellis of Grimsby, in Lincolnshire, worked at Abbotsholme School in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, from 2018 until August 2021, according to a report into his conduct.

He was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court in 2023 to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years.

A professional conduct hearing found that Lloyd Ellis “fell significantly short of the standards expected of the profession.”

Lloyd Ellis was prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, youth accommodation or children’s home in England.

Due to the seriousness of his offences, Sarah Buxcey of the Teaching Regulation Agency, acting on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education, decided Lloyd Ellis would not be entitled to apply to have his eligibility to teach restored in the future.

Lloyd Ellis was convicted in 2022 of two counts of sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 17 whilst in a position of trust, after a pupil at the school disclosed her relationship and the school’s headmaster was subsequently informed.

He was sentenced in August 2023 and the matter was subsequently referred to the Teaching Regulation Agency in September 2023.

Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed that 28-year-old former Abbotsholme teacher Lloyd Ellis has been charged with two counts of “abusing an adult position of trust after sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17”.

Prohibition order: Mr Lloyd Ellis

The findings of misconduct are particularly serious as they include a finding of a conviction involving sexual activity with a child.

“No mitigation evidence was provided by the teacher and the panel was unable to assess the extent of Mr Ellis’ insight or remorse.”

“By virtue of his position, Mr Ellis was in a position of trust and responsibility in relation to Pupil A. He abused that position.”

“The Advice indicates that there are behaviours that, if proved, would militate against the recommendation of a review period. One of these behaviours includes serious sexual misconduct, such as where the act was sexually motivated and resulted in, or had the potential to result in, harm to a person or persons, particularly where the individual has used his professional position to influence or exploit a person or persons / any sexual misconduct involving a child. The panel found that Mr Ellis was responsible for 2 counts of sexual activity with a girl 13-17.”

Mr Ellis’ behaviour ultimately led to a sentence of imprisonment, (albeit suspended), which was indicative of the seriousness of the offences committed.
