A 34-year-old man, Malcolm Lamont, the Denny Paedophile, has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for a series of grave sexual offences in North Lanarkshire.

Malcolm Lamont, 34, exploited youngsters over a seven-year duration in Motherwell.

Malcolm Lamont, previously of Denny, near Falkirk, refuted multiple charges during a prior trial at the High Court in Livingston, nevertheless was found guilty of six offences.

Judge Fiona Tait informed Malcolm Lamont at the High Court in Edinburgh that his offences were “of considerable gravity,” significantly affecting the victims.

She stated that a victim impact statement from one of the complainants described persistent trauma resulting from the offence, which encompassed interruptions to her education.

Malcolm Lamont engaged in inappropriate behaviour towards his initial victim from March 2008 to May 2010 by displaying pornographic photographs to the girl, who was between six and eight years old, on his mobile phone and television.

He exhibited analogous conduct when the girl was 12 years old, from March 2014 to March of the subsequent year, by displaying pornographic photographs and websites to her.

During this point, his criminal behaviour intensified to include inappropriate touching and rape of the girl.

He was additionally convicted of indecency towards a second girl by displaying pornography on his phone and television when she was between the ages of two and four, from March 2008 to May 2010.

The court stated that she noted Malcolm Lamont’s lack of prior convictions for sexual offences.

Defence attorney Iain Smith stated that Malcolm Lamont persists in denying the allegations.

He informed the court that Malcolm Lamont has one prior conviction for assault and had never been incarcerated until he was remanded in custody following his earlier trial in March of this year.

He stated that Malcolm Lamont had a challenging familial background and was evaluated as “vulnerable”.

The defence attorney stated that Lamont was fully cognisant that a jail term was unavoidable subsequent to his conviction for rape and sexual assault offences.

Malcolm Lamont was indefinitely registered as a sex offender after to punishment.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Sherry, of Lanarkshire Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “Malcolm Lamont is a predator who will now rightly face the consequences of his deplorable actions.

“He showed utter disregard for the impact his crimes would have on his victims and I want to commend them for reporting these offences to us. I hope they can take some comfort in knowing Malcolm Lamont is now being held to account for his actions.

“Police Scotland is committed to bringing the perpetrators of sexual abuse to justice, regardless of the passage of time, and we will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure victims are provided with all the relevant assistance they may require.”
