In 2016, a former hospital cleaner was imprisoned for fourteen years after raping a lady close to Eastbourne Pier and engaging in a series of sex assaults at his place of employment.

Following a trial at Lewes Crown Court, 50-year Mani Kurian of Eridge Road, Eastbourne, was found guilty of rape, five sexual assaults and assault by beating.

October 2014 saw him sexually assault a 21-year-old lady strolling Eastbourne’s upper promenade.

Sussex Police called Mani Kurian a “sexual predator”.

Between 2013 and 2015, three of the sex assaults happened at Worthing Hospital.

In April 2015, Mani Kurian also sexually attacked a 19-year-old lady in Hampden Park, Eastbourne.

Eastbourne District General Hospital hosted the beating attack in January 2015.

“Sexual predator who targeted women both in the workplace and in public,” Det Insp Neil Ralph said of Kurian.

“Today’s sentence offers the victims involved a successful resolution to a protracted ordeal.”

Mani Kurian was sentenced to twelve years for the rape, two years consecutively for one sex assault offence and two years apiece, to run concurrently for the other four counts.

In addition, Mani Kurian was sentenced to six months for the assault by beating, which is to run concurrently.
