A former Romford GP, Manish Shah, has been sentenced to two additional life terms for sexually assaulting four women during unwarranted examinations.
Last month, Manish Shah was convicted of 25 sexual assaults at his general practice clinic in Romford, East London.
Manish Shah, 53, was already serving three life terms for 90 prior offences.
On Monday at the Old Bailey, additional prison sentences were imposed to run concurrently with previous convictions.
He has been convicted of 115 counts of sexual assault and assault by penetration involving 28 women aged 15 to 34.
The court heard that Manish Shah coerced female patients into undergoing superfluous intimate examinations for his sexual enjoyment over a four-year period beginning in 2009.
During the trial, jurors were informed that Manish Shah had been a “highly esteemed” GP partner, with his appointments at the Mawney Road surgery frequently completely booked.
The court revealed that he exploited patients’ anxiety regarding cancer to perpetrate his offences, leveraging prominent celebrity instances to convince female patients to undergo invasive procedures.
The life sentences pertain to crimes committed against the two youngest victims, ages 15 and 17, at the onset of Manish Shah’s torture.
The Old Bailey adjudicated that Manish Shah exploited women and girls for his personal sexual enjoyment.
Victim impact statements from the women were presented in court at the sentence hearing.
The youngest victim was informed by Manish Shah that she was his “favourite” and “would excel in modelling,” while also cautioning her about the potential risk of cancer.
‘Distorted and perverse’
In her statement, she remarked that Manish Shah’s acts “have haunted me for 12 years, impacting crucial years of my development from adolescence to womanhood.”
She stated that prior to the assault, she was a “confident” and “innocent” little girl, but now she feels “violated and insecure”.
The victim stated she was compelled to relocate from the Romford area for her own safety as a witness, following instances of “verbal abuse,” “denigration,” and intimidation from others who could not accept the events that transpired.
She urged Manish Shah to recognise the “mind-blowing” devastation inflicted by his “sick and twisted” actions.
Another victim, who was molested at the age of 34, stated that Shah’s refusal to acknowledge his actions exacerbated the situation.
She stated, “He subjected me to increasing levels of trauma.” He exploited the vulnerable.
“I aspire to progress in my life and attain a fulfilling existence, distinct from my current circumstances.”
During sentencing, Judge Peter Rook stated that Manish Shah continued to pose a “danger to women” and that his actions inflicted “long-term psychological damage” on his victims.
He imposed two life sentences on Manish Shah, each with a minimum of 10 years, to be served consecutively with the previous sentences.
He then ordered additional prison sentences for the other offences, which will also be served simultaneously with the life sentences.
