A 62-year-old man, Mark Bye Red Lodge Paedophile, has been incarcerated after admitting guilt to many sexual offences against a minor.

Mark Bye, formerly of Acorn Way, was sentenced to seven years and four months’ imprisonment at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, 11 March, after pleading guilty to 13 counts of sexual abuse.

He has been permanently registered on the Sex Offenders Register and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Mark Bye admitted guilt to 13 charges as detailed below:

  • Buggery with a boy under 16 years of age
  • Attempted buggery with a boy under 16 years of age
  • 8 counts of indecent assault of a child
  • 3 counts of indecency with a child

The offences were all against one victim and took place over a four-year period.

In a personal statement read in court the victim spoke how the sexual abuse affected his life.

He said: “The sexual abuse has impacted my life in so many ways, especially my relationships with loved ones and immediate family.

“Until now I have never told anyone! I have always felt ashamed, disgusted and mostly afraid to speak of it. It has impacted my life in so many ways. The painful memories are extreme.

“I honestly believe he [Mark Bye] is a danger to all children and young people.”

Detective Constable George Bullent, the investigating officer in the case, stated: “The offences perpetrated by Bye against a young victim were exceedingly heinous.”

I wish to praise the victim in this case for his courage in coming forward and collaborating with us during the investigating process. I trust that his courage in stepping out will inspire others to follow suit.

I also hope this case illustrates that, despite the elapsed time, we can still prosecute and obtain convictions for offenders of serious sexual assault.

“We are satisfied with the imposed sentence, which underscores the gravity of the offences committed.”

“Nevertheless, although this sentence may offer the victim a degree of closure, it is comprehensible that Bye’s actions have profoundly affected him.”
