Martin Richards QPM (born 1959) is a former police officer, having last held the role of Chief Constable of Sussex Police from 1 October 2008 until his retirement in 2014. He once held the position of Chief Constable of the Wiltshire Police.
Back in 2012, an IPPC investigation was opened on Martin Richards concerning an allegation, made anonymously, of bringing undue influence on a criminal case. Of course Sussex Police wanted to sweep the allegation under the table and succeeded.
The IPCC stated that Martin Richards was cleared in late 2012 because the anonymous tipster would not come forward to “substantiate the uncorroborated allegations”. Can you imagine this scenario, you report anonymously and then the people you report try and force you to name yourself and come in and face them if you want the investigation to continue.
“Coincidentally” Martin Richards retired just over a year later after being “cleared” at the age of 55…hmmm. That may have had something to do with the 14 serious complaints that Sussex Police had received about him in the short 5 years he was Chief Constable there.
Another win for the corrupt Sussex Police.
