Michael Jobes assaulted his partner by stamping on her head and threatening to “chop her up” during a short, yet violent relationship. He developed paranoia and controlling behaviour over the six-month relationship due to suspicions of infidelity from his partner.
Michael Jobes, 34, enquired about the identity of her correspondent prior to initiating a violent assault that resulted in her being bruised and bloodied. In her victim statement, the woman indicated that Michael Jobes’ abuse had resulted in persistent nightmares and insomnia. She has also been compelled to vacate her residence.
He admitted guilt to assault resulting in actual bodily harm, harassment, and criminal damage. During the sentencing of Jobes, a resident of Windsor Place, Shotton Colliery, Judge James Adkin, the Recorder of Durham, stated that he grew increasingly “paranoid and controlling” as the relationship evolved. Michael Jobes received a 22-month prison sentence along with a lifelong restraining order.
