The convicted paedophile sex offender’s sentence, Michael King, has been nearly doubled subsequent to an application to the Court of Appeal.
Michael King, 33, received a 10-year prison sentence at Leeds Crown Court in October after being found guilty of eight sexual offences, including three counts of raping a girl under the age of 13.
A new sentence of 20 years was imposed following the hearing of the West Yorkshire Police’s application on Friday.
The appeal was submitted pursuant to the Unduly Lenient Sentences procedure.
Detective Inspector Mark Tester stated: “Michael King’s criminal actions have inflicted significant trauma on the victim.”
“We anticipate that the augmented sentence Michael King has now received will provide her and her family with an enhanced sense of justice as they proceed with their lives.”
A representative for the police stated that the request was submitted because the family was “disappointed” with the duration of the initial sentence.
Michael King was initially sentenced to ten years for the rape offences, alongside a concurrent four-year term for four counts of sexual assault against a child under thirteen and one count of forcing or persuading a child to participate in sexual activity.
Michael King was granted a one-year extension of his licence.
The previous conviction was annulled, and a new term of 20 years was imposed, which included a one-year extended licence period.
Michael King had previously been registered as a sex offender and subjected to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
