Michael Lang assaulted a man with kicks, punches, stomps, and spitting during a prolonged attack, triggered by a music that evoked feelings for his former lover. The duo had been acquainted for almost two months when they convened on January 7, indulging in drink and engaging in singing.

Nonetheless, their enjoyment rapidly escalated into violence following a specific song that provoked an emotional reaction from Michael Lang. The victim sustained fractured ribs, a minor lung puncture, contusions and oedema to the forehead and eye socket, bilateral periorbital haematomas, a lacerated lip, and additional bruising throughout the body.

Michael Bunch, the prosecutor, stated: “He expressed fear of leaving the house and experienced panic attacks upon hearing a knock at the door.” He resigned from his position due to a fear of public exposure. He states that his depression and PTSD have intensified, necessitating an increase in his medication. He was incapacitated for the initial two weeks.

Michael Lang, 22, of Burn Closes Crescent, Wallsend, with five prior convictions, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and was sentenced to four years and five months in prison, along with a five-year restraining order.
