Michael Willis, a friend of Jimmy Savile, downloaded numerous disturbing photographs prior to his apprehension.

He reportedly went missing in December and was last observed boarding a water taxi to a pontoon where his yacht was anchored in Dartmouth, Devon.

A later search conducted by the RNLI and coastguard yielded no findings.

A body was discovered on January 20, half a mile down the river, eventually identified as David Evans, aged 79.

Michael Willis, known by the stage name Steve Merike in the 1970s, was discovered with 500 photos on his computer on his yacht, Appalachian Spring, in Plymouth.

During the commencement of his inquest in Exeter last week, it was revealed that he was a divorced and retired college lecturer.

Coroner Alison Longhorn of the Devon district stated: “The circumstances indicate that David Evans resided on the boat moored on the River Dart.”

“He was reported missing to the authorities due to his absence for several days.”

“Several weeks later, a body was discovered further down the river, but it has not been confirmed to be that of David Evans.”

“No suspicious circumstances exist.” The reason of death is undetermined.

Michael Willis had previously worked at Radio Caroline, along with his paedophile DJ friends, before a brief tenure at Radio 1 and was besties with the notorious paedophile Jimmy Savile.

Following his arrest, he originally asserted that he was “intrigued by the Jimmy Savile affair” and sought to convey his discoveries to a sociologist.

In 2015, Michael Willis received a suspended nine-month prison sentence from Leicester Crown Court after confessing to nine charges of downloading indecent photos and films of minors from 2006 to 2013.

Following the 2017 raid on his boat, he refuted allegations of possessing 238 Category A indecent photographs of children on his computers, depicting their sexual assault by adults. He also refuted possessing 226 Category B photos.

Michael Willis admitted guilt to possessing merely 10 images classified in the least severe Category C, stored on a memory stick.

The jury at Plymouth Crown Court dismissed his assertions and unanimously convicted him following a two-day trial.
