Nick Baldock, a former West Sussex Paedophile teacher at Lancing College has been convicted of child sex offences and sharing personal data of some pupils.
Nick Baldock, 46, formerly of Lancing College, was charged with sexual assault after indecently touching a teenager in July 2022. The boy was a college pupil at the time.
Nick Baldock contacted the victim after the incident under the guise of apologising but made inappropriate sexual comments about younger boys.
Nick Baldock was arrested, and many digital devices were seized.
These were found to contain several indecent images of children, including one of the most serious Category A images. None of these were of current or former pupils at Lancing College.

Messages that Nick Baldock had with other users on the Telegram messaging app also indicated a sexual interest in boys aged between 13 and 17.
The investigation showed that Nick Baldock was found to have sent some non-indecent pictures of boys to other like-minded individuals, some of which had been downloaded from the school database.
Nick Baldock was subsequently charged with sexual assault and two counts of publishing an obscene article, as well as three counts of knowingly disclosing personal data without consent relating to six victims who were pupils at the college.
Nick Baldock was also charged with three counts of making an indecent photograph of a child. These images did not relate to children at the school.
The offences took place between August 2021 and December 2022.
At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Friday (30 August), Nick Baldock pleaded guilty to all charges.
Nick Baldock was released on conditional court bail and was made subject to notification to the Sex Offenders Register before sentencing at a court to be confirmed on 27 September.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hitchcock of Sussex Police’s OCAT (Online Child Abuse Team) said: “Nick Baldock betrayed the trust of all of his victims, their families and the entire school community, using his position to pursue his disturbing sexual interest in young boys.
“I would like to thank the victim who reported the sexual assault to the school, which allowed us to discover the broader scale of Nick Baldock’s offending, as well as Lancing College for their support of the investigation.
“We will now look ahead to sentencing towards the end of this month.”

Lancing College, a prestigious British independent school founded in 1848, has had its history marred by several allegations and convictions of child sexual abuse involving former teachers. While such cases have been reported at various institutions, Lancing College has faced its share of scrutiny over the years due to the presence of predatory behaviour by some staff members in the past.
Key Incidents:
- In recent decades, there have been reports and investigations involving former staff members of Lancing College who were accused or convicted of sexually abusing students.
- These incidents came to light during a more comprehensive national investigation into abuse at UK boarding schools.
- Some cases relate to offences committed in the mid-20th century, and several teachers have been convicted or publicly accused of inappropriate behaviour.
Cultural and Institutional Reactions:
- Like many elite institutions, Lancing College has been criticised for how it dealt with such allegations in the past. There were claims that institutions often protected their reputations rather than fully addressing the trauma faced by victims.
- Like many others, the school has had to reckon with its past and adopt modern safeguarding policies. In recent years, Lancing College has introduced more stringent measures to protect students from abuse and ensure transparency in handling such allegations.
- The revelations of abuse at institutions like Lancing College reflect broader systemic issues in the handling of abuse cases, especially in boarding schools, during the 20th century. Many survivors of such abuse have come forward in recent years, leading to greater scrutiny of these schools’ practices and histories.
UPDATE 25.10.24
A boarding school educator who sexually attacked a kid and harboured a “dark secret” of having photos depicting the sexual abuse of children has evaded incarceration.
Nick Baldock, formerly employed at Lancing College, near Worthing, West Sussex, for five years, inappropriately grabbed a student’s posterior during an event in July 2022.
Upon Nick Baldock’s arrest, investigators confiscated his gadgets, discovering indecent photographs of youngsters unrelated to the school, as well as non-indecent images of college students accompanied by sexualised remarks.
The court was informed that the history teacher remarked in the group chat, “every day is agony,” on his role at the school, and bragged about observing kids in their pants.
During the sentencing on Thursday, Judge David Rennie stated: “Parents bear the ultimate responsibility for nurturing their children and safeguarding them from harm.”
Educators bear a comparable degree of obligation.
You violated that trust by prioritising your personal sexual enjoyment above it.
“You ought to be profoundly ashamed of yourself.”
Nick Baldock earlier entered a guilty plea for sexual assault, two charges of publishing an obscene article, three charges of knowingly releasing personal data without authorisation, and three charges of producing indecent photos of children.
In defence of Nick Baldock, barrister John Hunter characterised him as a “troubled soul” who dedicated himself to his profession and lacked a life beyond academia.
He expressed authentic contrition and is receiving counselling to confront his inner struggles.
Nick Baldock, a Catholic paedophile, clutched his prayer beads while seated in the dock, accompanied by relatives in court as he received a 12-month suspended sentence for two years and an eight-year sexual harm prevention order.
INSANE AND IMMORAL Judge Rennie stated: “You are attracted to depictions of child sexual abuse; these are not victimless crimes. You are witnessing young individuals being traumatised, and they must endeavour to cope for the remainder of their lives, as those images will perpetually exist.”
“A referee comments on your profound religious conviction, which is an unusual manner of expressing it.”
After the sentencing, Sussex Police Detective Sergeant Paul Hitchcock stated that Nick Baldock’s crimes constituted a “betrayal” of his responsibilities and demonstrated “callous disregard” for the minor victims depicted in the obscene photographs.
He stated: “We are grateful to the victim of the initial sexual assault and the support of Lancing College, which enabled us to reveal the extent of Baldock’s offences and secure his conviction.”
The sexual harm prevention order significantly restricts Nick Baldock’s capacity to inflict harm on other young individuals, and I trust it offers some solace to his victims.
A representative for Lancing College denounced the abuse as “appalling” and expressed “great sadness” because it contradicts the institution’s mission.
“Although complacency is unacceptable, our safeguarding measures are rigorous, subject to independent inspection, and undergo regular review, with the most recent evaluation occurring in the months following our awareness of these issues,” they stated.
