A 27-year-old Northampton Rapist, Nicu Botnari, has received an eight-year prison sentence for a rape that occurred in the Abington region of Northampton.

In the early hours of October 11, 2020, a woman was relishing an evening in the garden with her housemates following an extended work shift.

Also invited to the residence that evening was an acquaintance of one of the inhabitants – Nicu Botnari, formerly of the Headlands, Northampton.

After the woman retired for the night and returned to her bedroom to rest, she awoke to discover Nicu Botnari assaulting her.

Subsequent to the event, Nicu Botnari exited the residence, and shortly thereafter, the woman notified the police.

An inquiry commenced, and in December of the previous year, Nicu Botnari was convicted of one count of rape at Northampton Crown Court. On March 13, he received an eight-year prison sentence at the same court.

Lead Investigator – Detective Sergeant Andrea Taylor stated: “As a police force, we never underestimate the bravery required for an individual to report a sexual assault, and I wish to assure the public that such reports will be handled with sensitivity and confidentiality.”

The survivor in this instance will never forget Nicu Botnari’s actions, but she should take pride in her remarkable courage, which has led to the incarceration of a dangerous rapist. Due to her actions, he can no longer inflict harm on others.

This case continues to profoundly affect her, yet I hope today’s resolution offers her some solace. She possesses numerous advantages, and I hope she may now perceive more promising prospects ahead.

Addressing violence against women and girls is a priority for Northamptonshire Police. We will trust you, provide our support, and do all efforts to incarcerate the individual who perpetrated the crime against you.
