A teenage university student testified to a jury yesterday that being raped by a man, Nigel Hunt, the Headington Rapist, whom she encountered in an Oxford nightclub constituted the “worst hours of my life.”

The 18-year-old victim encountered 31-year-old Nigel Hunt during an evening at The Spirit nightclub, where they engaged in dancing and consuming beverages together.

The jury was informed that the adolescent invited Hunt to her room but explicitly stated her disinterest in engaging in vaginal intercourse with him. Nevertheless, prosecutors asserted that Hunt subsequently raped her multiple times.

Nigel Hunt is now on trial at Oxford Crown Court, facing allegations of sexual offences against a girl that occurred in October 2021, as well as additional sexual offences involving another lady who was previously an Oxford student.

Nigel Hunt faces four charges of rape involving one alleged victim and one allegation each of assault by penetration and rape concerning another victim.

Prosecutor John Riley told the jury that the defendant and the first victim had met on a night out in Oxford in October 2021.

“She was attending as a student – 18 years of age – and on that evening she went to a nightclub in Oxford called The Spirit with a number of friends. She met a man there.

“She explained she danced with him and he bought her a drink and she had some other drinks.

“When the time came of closing the club, at about 3am, they clearly talked about what would happen next.”

Mr Riley told the jury the victim invited the defendant back to her room but explained that she did not want to have vaginal sex.

He added: “She explained to him – either on the walk back or immediately when back at the room, that she did not want to have full vaginal sex with him.

“She was raped vaginally and anally on a number of occasions and orally as well.”

The jury heard that there was forensic evidence that confirmed Nigel Hunt’s semen was found in her body.

The court heard that Nigel Hunt, of William Kimber Crescent, Headington, raped another woman – who had returned to Oxford to catch up with some friends because she had been to Oxford as a student previously – in May last year after a night out.

In a police interview played to the jury, the victim of the alleged October 2021 incidents said: “I was drained, I was so overwhelmed – there were so many things going through my head, like why is this happening?”

She described the alleged incident as “the worst hours of my life”.

Hunt – dressed in a navy suit as he sat in the dock – denies the offences.

In a recorded cross-examination, Peter du Feu, defence counsel for Hunt, said to the teenage complainant: “Why did you invite him home?”

The victim responded: “I wanted to just chill and make out.

“I don’t have to invite somebody back for sex. That’s not the only reason you spend time with someone in private.”

The trial continues.
