On Friday, March 14, a Paedophile from Wistow, near Selby, Oliver Thomas Lupton Lane, has been sentenced to over six years in prison for child sexual crimes.
Oliver Thomas Lupton Lane, 24, of Richmond Hill, Garman Carr Lane, Wistow, Selby, pleaded guilty to 11 of 18 allegations, including sexual conduct with a child, arranging or supporting the commission of a child sex offence, and multiple accusations of producing indecent photos of minors.
He received a sentence of six years and ten months at York Crown Court.
The court was informed that North Yorkshire Police officers were notified of a child’s revelation that she had initiated communication with a guy on SnapChat, and they had subsequently met and participated in sexual conduct. The child was fourteen years old at the time of the sexual activity. Oliver Lane was promptly recognised as the culprit and apprehended. Authorities confiscated multiple electronic devices from Lane. Child sexual abuse material pertaining to the victim was found on these devices. The Victim Identification Unit of North Yorkshire Police also identified two additional minors depicted in child abuse material discovered on Oliver Lane’s devices.
The Digital Forensic Unit of North Yorkshire Police successfully repaired and extracted data from one of the victim’s phones. A protracted SnapChat dialogue between the victim and Oliver Lane was retrieved. The conversation contents unequivocally indicate that Lane was fully cognisant of the child’s age; still, he proceeded to groom her, compel her to produce explicit images and videos, and arrange meetings for sexual encounters.
Oliver Lane faced 18 charges, including participating in penetrative sexual action with a girl aged 13 to 15, causing or persuading a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual communications with a minor, producing indecent photos of a child, and blackmail.
When Oliver Lane was identified as a suspect, he was in his third year of pursuing a law degree and had claimed to one of his victims that he was already a lawyer.
Detective Constable Oliver Dalby from York CID stated, “The offences to which Oliver Lane has confessed are entirely reprehensible.” He has caused an immense degree of emotional trauma to one of his victims, leaving her uncertain of her potential for complete recovery.
During the probe, Oliver Lane has exhibited no contrition. His choice to submit guilty pleas immediately prior to the commencement of his trial resulted in one of his victims having already participated in a pre-recorded cross-examination, during which she was compelled to recount the abuse she had endured.
“I extend my gratitude to the victims in this case for their courage, trust, and patience; the prosecution of Oliver Lane would not have been feasible without their collaboration.”
