A Lowestoft paedophile, Oscar Fitzgerald, who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl he had manipulated over social media has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Oscar Fitzgerald, 26, from Lowestoft, Suffolk, coordinated an internet meeting with his victim and thereafter transported her to his residence.

The girl’s mother promptly reported her missing, prompting the police to initiate searches. She was located subsequent to messaging her mother.

The police stated that Oscar Fitzgerald, who was incarcerated at Norwich Crown Court on Friday, was a “dangerous sexual offender.”

Oscar Fitzgerald, a resident of Church Road, had previously entered a guilty plea to three charges of raping a girl under the age of 13.

According to the authorities, Oscar Fitzgerald established communication with the child from West Suffolk on the same day she disappeared last September, and he was cognisant of her age being merely 12.

‘Bravery of the victim’

The victim informed detectives that upon arriving at a residence, she was instructed to ascend the stairs, where she was then raped, despite her pleas for him to cease.

She messaged her mother while walking home, following her drop-off at a bus station.

Oscar Fitzgerald was apprehended at his residence after the girl provided the police with his initial name, the colour of his vehicle, his phone number, and a description of the two-bedroom dwelling.

Detective Constable Stephen Clarke of Suffolk Police expressed his desire to “commend the victim’s courage” for providing a “immediate and detailed account.”

“This prompt action enabled officers to identify and detain Oscar Fitzgerald.”

“We have successfully removed a hazardous sexual offender from the streets,” he stated.

Oscar Fitzgerald has been placed on the sex offenders’ registry indefinitely.
