Do you remember PC Paul Faulkner from Cleveland Police who appeared on Channel 5’s Police Interceptors wherein he was nicknamed “Mustard”?
He engaged in a ‘inappropriate’ extramarital affair with a susceptible colleague, which he maintained while serving as her federation representative during an IOPC probe. He subsequently deceived both the chair and secretary of the Federation chapter, as well as his supervisor, when questioned over the claim, after his wife’s concerns raised with the force.
A disciplinary panel determined that PC Paul Faulkner was guilty of misconduct, albeit not gross misconduct, over the two charges.
Then Cleveland Police applied to a judicial review at the High Court so they could sack PC Paul Faulkner.
This farce went on for an age and, in the end, after months and months of getting nowhere the ineffective force got permission to hold another silly internal hearing to sack the, obviously should be fired, PC Paul Faulkner.
PC Paul Faulkner’s best defence would have been that he was quite sane when he joined Cleveland Police but their absolutely insane practices sent him bat shit crazy.
