A former Metropolitan Police officer Paedophile, PC Will Scott-Barrett from London, has evaded incarceration after confessing to transmitting sexual texts to a 15-year-old male. PC Will Scott-Barrett, 33, received a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, at Isleworth Crown Court.
The court previously heard that PC Will Scott-Barrett admitted guilt to a charge of sexual communication with a minor on or before February 3 of the previous year. A prior hearing revealed that he spoke with the minor via the Snapchat and Discord social media applications starting in April 2020.
PC Will Scott-Barrett, from Bromley, South East London, transmitted messages containing explicit sexual images and videos to the minor, whose identity is protected for legal reasons. The officer was off-duty at the commission of his offence, which is not said to be related to his position in the police force. He has since resigned from his position.
A representative from the Metropolitan Police stated that a misconduct hearing determined that had Will Scott-Barrett not resigned, he would have faced termination. At the sentencing, Judge Robin Johnson remarked, “This is indisputably a tragic case.” Regrettable for you, as you have lost your employment and your integrity, but also distressing, concerning, and disturbing for the victim’s family.
My condolences are directed for the victim and his family, not you. This type of offence is detrimental to children, which is apparent. The damage inflicted upon the sufferer is immeasurable. You previously exhibited commendable conduct while serving as a police officer. I acknowledge that you have demonstrated sincere contrition and are undertaking measures to evaluate your misconduct.
