CCTV footage acquired during a rape investigation has resulted in the incarceration of two guys, Redjon Cenaj and Mariglen Ferataj, the Leicester Rapists.
In October 2023, a report was filed concerning a young woman who experienced a severe sexual assault following a night out in the city.
The victim was in a nightclub with companions when she encountered a man and became separated from them.
As closing time approached, the victim and the individual subsequently recognised as 22-year-old Redjon Cenaj exited, where he was accompanied by 20-year-old Mariglen Ferataj.
All three subsequently entered a cab that transported them to the victim’s flat, where she was assaulted.
The event was reported the subsequent morning, allowing authorities to get vital CCTV and medical evidence.
The CCTV footage revealed that the victim was incapacitated, while the accused were observed guiding her and supporting her physically. Mariglen Ferataj was captured on CCTV lifting the victim and placing her in the taxi after she fell to the ground.
A statement from the taxi driver indicated that the victim was unaware of the situation.
A drug test indicated the presence of narcotics in the victim’s system.
Redjon Cenaj and Mariglen Ferataj were detained a few days later, and during his interrogation, Mariglen Ferataj asserted that the victim was aware of the situation and had given agreement. Redjon Cenaj refuted any occurrence of sexual activity.
Following a trial at Leicester Crown Court last month, Redjon Cenaj and Mariglen Ferataj were convicted of two counts of rape and one act of sexual assault by penetration.
On Friday, April 11, at the same court, Redjon Cenaj of Luther Street, Leicester, and Mariglen Ferataj of Beaufort Way, Leicester, received sentences of nine years in jail each.
