Richard James Lane, 58, the Weymouth Rapist, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for raping a woman while she was asleep. Additionally, he will be permanently registered on the Sex Offenders Register.

Richard James Lane, formerly of Wyke Road and a prominent member of the Weymouth Angling Society, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court in September 2017.

Richard James Lane was convicted two weeks prior, on September 14, at the same court.

In 2016, Richard James Lane sexually assaulted a woman while she was asleep at his residence.

She was awakened in the early morning hours by Richard James Lane engaging in sexual intercourse with her.

“I trust that the sentence delivered today will provide some solace to her after an exceedingly distressing period. “Ultimately, I hope this case instills confidence in the public that we regard all allegations of sexual offences with utmost seriousness, will conduct comprehensive investigations, and will support victims.”
