The mother of a little boy who was raped and molested by a depraved Skelmersdale Paedophile, Robert Cahill, has articulated the profound impact on both herself and her kid.

Robert Cahill, 60, exploited the minor over several years while residing in Skelmersdale.

The youngster was about six years old when the assault commenced. However, it was not until several years later that he disclosed the information to his mother and filed a report with Lancashire Police.

His mum said: “I felt sucker-punched. It was awful. It’s just the worst thing any parent can feel, aside from losing a child.

“I felt so much guilt. Logically I know I would never have been able to know, but I feel like I’ve not protected him.

“I can’t look at photos of him when he was little any more, because I look at them and think about what was happening then. It has destroyed us, ruined his childhood, ruined his confidence.

Robert Cahill, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and four counts of rape of a child under 13.

Robert Cahill appeared at Preston Crown Court yesterday, June 26, where he was sentenced to nine years and eight months behind bars, plus an additional seven years on licence.
