A malevolent paedophile, Ryan Yates, who fatally murdered a grandmother while attempting to abduct and sexually assault her grandchildren in a Scottish park has died in prison.
Ryan Yates, aged 44, died in detention in HMP Glenochil on December 21, 2024, as reported by the Scottish Prison Service (SPS). The individual was incarcerated for life in 2010 after confessing to fatally stabbing a 60-year-old woman who was attempting to shield her grandkids at Westfield Park in Aberdeen.
The High Court in Glasgow was informed of Yates’s intention to abduct and sexually assault children aged eight and two. The creature stated his intention to murder the woman in order to “reach the children”.
Ryan Yates assaulted the grandmother as she accompanied her granddaughters, but she valiantly resisted, prompting his retreat. He was apprehended by law enforcement shortly after the incident and stated that he had ventured out that day “seeking to find some children to engage in sexual activities with”.
Upon arrest, he informed the officers: “I inhabit a fantasy… I envision a world devoid of adults, solely comprising myself and children.” Yates perpetrated the assault within days following his release from incarceration after completing a seven-year extended sentence for a sexual crime.
Ryan Yates confessed to attempting to murder the wife with the intention of abducting the children. The defence attorney informed the court that Yates consented to undergo chemical castration.
During sentencing, Judge Lord Pentland stated: “I have no doubt that while you are at liberty, you pose an exceptionally high risk to the public, especially to women and children.”
While incarcerated, Ryan Yates was prohibited from communicating with another victim after he sent her letters and harassed her during his imprisonment at Peterhead. He confessed to bragging about mistreating her when she was about five years old.
The SPS verified that Ryan Yates passed away in custody last month. A Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) will be conducted in due course, as is standard for such custodial deaths. Police Scotland has been notified.
A representative for SPS stated: “Each death, whether occurring in prison custody or within our communities, constitutes a tragedy for all who knew and supported the individual.” Upon the demise of an individual under our supervision, Police Scotland is notified, and the incident is reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
“Fatal Accident Enquiries are conducted in a timely manner.”
