A former physician at George Eliot Hospital, Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed Paedophile, has been removed from the medical registry due to a conviction for egregious child sexual abuse charges.

Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed possessed a collection of 52 obscene photographs and films of children on his mobile device, which was discovered by the police in October 2021, merely eight days after he commenced his employment at the Nuneaton hospital. Among these, 28 were classified as category A – the most serious – and it was shown that Maxamed had downloaded this content during his shifts.

Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed also participated on Telegram to exchange pornographic images of minors and discuss egregious crimes, including murder, against them, as disclosed in a report by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS). He described these activities as “hot,” as stated in the affidavit. The study additionally revealed that the juvenile victims were between two months and 10 years old, with several exhibiting “evident signs of distress”. The tribunal determined that Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed’s conduct were “so egregious that they were irreparable,” resulting in the termination of his medical career.

Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed, residing on Canal Street in Aylestone, Leicester, was also discovered in possession of cocaine during a search of his flat in October 2021. The tribunal observed that he had attended work while under the influence of illicit Class A drugs, however the frequency of such occurrences was not specified, according to Leicestershire Live. Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed was sentenced to a 10-month suspended prison term for two years, along with 140 hours of community service and 55 days of rehabilitative activities, when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court in March of the previous year. He was additionally registered as a sexual offender for a period of ten years.

His early guilty plea led to a mitigated punishment; nevertheless, during the tribunal, it was shown that the forensic examination of his phone likely compelled him to file a guilty plea. Despite first refuting the allegations and asserting that such actions contradicted his moral principles, he ultimately altered his plea. The tribunal gathered in January and determined that Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed’s acts necessitated his immediate removal from the Medical Practitioner Register. The panel members determined that his behaviour was “so deplorable and egregious that it cannot be remedied,” concluding that immediate deregistration was the sole suitable remedy, thereby prohibiting him from practicing medicine in the UK.

Before his imprisonment, Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed had been employed at George Eliot Hospital for about eight days. Despite not participating in paediatric care and being supervised as a novice physician, his arrest resulted in the annulment of his hospital contract prior to his punishment last year. Sharmake Abdulahi Maxamed, absent from the tribunal hearing, may contest the ruling within 28 days of its issuance. If he opts to appeal, his suspension will remain in force until a conclusive decision is rendered.
