The Exeter Animal Killer, Sian Rees, was responsible for the death of a dog due to carelessness and has evaded an instant prison sentence.
Sian Rees, residing on Wykes Road in Exeter, acknowledged her responsibility for a female bull breed dog named Kimmi and admitting to giving the animal undue suffering.
Exeter Magistrates’ Court was informed that the 29-year-old resulted in the dog’s death due to a “prolonged period of abandonment and neglect” from December 2023 to January of this year.
Sian Rees received a 15-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
Sian Rees received an 18-month supervision order, was mandated to pay £354 in costs, and was permanently prohibited from possessing animals, with the prohibition non-appealable for 10 years.
RSPCA Inspector Miranda Albinson, who investigated for the animal welfare charity, said: “The circumstances of Kimmi’s death are so tragic, and were caused because her owner showed such shocking disregard for a fellow living creature.
“Owning a dog like Kimmi is a privilege, and it is heartbreaking to think what she went through after being left to die.
“Dogs feel pain and suffering just like we do, and deserve to be shown kindness and compassion.
“If any pet owner is struggling to care for their animal, we’d encourage them to reach out to a local charity or organisation who can help.”
