An individual, Stephen Denison, the Fenham Sex Offender, who had been found guilty of a sexual offence attempted to embrace and kiss a woman as her small daughter accompanied her in the rear of a church.
Stephen Denison, a repeat offender with two prior convictions for sexual assault, encountered the female and kid outside the church in Fenham on a day in May this year. Denison’s earlier conviction had him grabbing a teenage teenager at a city centre bus stop, causing her to hyperventilate in alarm. According to the court, the 50-year-old individual with deviant tendencies proceeded to sit beside the victim and embraced her before forcefully dragging her towards him and attempting to kiss her.
According to authorities, the victim, who was horrified, forcefully shoved the pervert away as concerned members of the public, who had witnessed the incident, intervened. Stephen Denison, residing on Baxter Avenue in Fenham, was apprehended and formally accused of a single instance of sexual assault.
He did to appear for a later hearing at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. However, he was eventually apprehended last month and admitted responsibility for the offence, and the matter was postponed until this week for sentencing. Gurjot Kaur, the prosecutor, stated that in May of this year, Stephen Denison approached the victim and her little daughter while they were seated in the church. The victim was not acquainted with Denison.
Miss Kaur stated that the defendant initially embraced her. He persistently attempted to converse with her and proffered a penny to her daughter. The accused, after that, encircled his arm around her posterior and endeavoured to forcefully draw her closer to him in an attempt to initiate a non-consensual kiss. She forcefully repelled him.
The subject reported experiencing cardiac arrhythmia and requiring medication to alleviate nausea. Additionally, she mentioned that she has been unable to revisit the church since the occurrence.
According to the court proceedings, Stephen Denison’s criminal record consists of 46 charges, which notably include two instances of sexual assault in 2021 and 2016. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and required to register as a sex offender for ten years due to the 2021 incident in which he groped a teenage schoolgirl at Eldon Square bus station.
Andy O’Hanlon, the defence attorney, argued that Stephen Denison was not inherently “evil” but rather “undiagnosed” with a limited comprehension. Mr. O’Hanlon stated that the individual has not addressed his inappropriate actions while in detention.
“Probation desires to continue collaborating with him in a highly concentrated manner.” Implementing measures to mitigate his excessive alcohol consumption would be a commendable initial step. While temporarily incarcerating him may provide a short-term solution, it will not effectively resolve the underlying issues. Probation intends to invest a significant amount of effort in him. Until that task is completed, he will aimlessly roam, annoying.
The magistrates sentenced Stephen Denison to a 20-week imprisonment and ordered him to register as a sex offender for seven years.
