A former Eastbourne Police officer, Steve Green, who attempted to kiss a vulnerable lady while on duty has been prohibited from serving in law enforcement.

Steve Green, having previously resigned, attended a two-day misconduct hearing on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The panel determined that his acts in February 2022 constituted grave misconduct.

The police stated that the 38-year-old, stationed in Eastbourne, made “inappropriate contact” by phone with the woman he encountered while on duty.

In a statement, it was noted: “He subsequently endeavoured to initiate an inappropriate relationship with the woman and, while visiting her residence to obtain a statement, attempted to kiss her.”

A misconduct panel determined that he violated professional conduct rules and would have been terminated from the force had he not previously resigned.

Mr. Steve Green has been added to the College of Policing prohibited list to prohibit his reentry into the profession.

Det Supt Jon Robeson, deputy head of professional standards, said the force took reports of inappropriate behaviour “extremely seriously”.

“This officer’s behaviour is a violation of the trust that the public put in the police to serve and protect them,” he added.

“He has not only let down the public, but also his colleagues, who carry out an enormous amount of good work with victims of serious offences every day.”
