A man from Swindon has been apprehended on allegations of rape. The police apprehended a 19-year-old male from the Swindon region on Sunday.

An inquiry has commenced over an alleged sexual assault purportedly occurring in the town centre during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Wiltshire Police is soliciting witnesses to assist with their investigations.

A spokesperson said: “Officers investigating an alleged sexual assault have arrested a 19-year-old man from the Swindon area on suspicion of rape.

“We would like to hear from anyone in Swindon Town Centre in the early hours of Saturday (08/09) who may have seen anything suspicious.

“Please call us on 101 quoting log 54240105861.

“Alternatively, you can leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”

On Saturday, police cordoned off Queen Street, which connects Fleet Street and Carr Street, for several hours while investigating a report of a sexual assault that had reportedly happened earlier that same day.

The blue and white tape also blocked an alley between an audio equipment shop and a local restaurant.

Wiltshire Police have been asked to confirm that these are linked.
