An abhorrent sexual offender, Terry Godwin Moreton Paedophile, who perpetrated hundreds of rapes and sexual assaults on a girl has cast a lasting and distressing influence over her for several decades. Terry Godwin specifically selected his victim throughout her early childhood.
According to testimony presented at Liverpool Crown Court, the abuse persisted for an extended period, causing significant distress to the victim, who stated that it has been a part of her memory for as long as she can recall. Terry Godwin made a monetary payment to purchase the silence of his victim.
However, after many decades, he has ultimately been held accountable for his evil offences. According to the Liverpool Echo, the victim reported the incident to the police in 2022, as stated during the court hearing on Tuesday (August 20).
According to David Polglase, the prosecutor, the complainant informed Merseyside Police that she had been concealing the abuse throughout her life. Terry Godwin, who was between the ages of 12 and 19 at the time, committed over 250 instances of sexual assault against his victim.
The individual, Terry Godwin, currently 39 years old and residing in Corwen Close in Moreton, Wirral, engaged in sexual assault while engaging in self-stimulation. They also directed the victim to engage in sexual acts with them and then provided money as an incentive for her to remain silent about the incident. The victim, in a statement presented to the court on her behalf, expressed that a distressing and pervasive influence has burdened her throughout her entire existence.
“It has impacted me in ways that are difficult to articulate.” I continue to have the same sense of humiliation that I had in the past. I have experienced profound solitude throughout my existence and have never genuinely experienced the state of being completely content. I have contemplated the feasibility of nonexistence. The trauma has deprived me of my childhood and a significant portion of my adult life.
She stated: “My only experiences were pain and suffering inflicted by Terry Godwin.” He has deeply rooted emotions within me that cause me to feel unworthy of receiving love. Only others other than oneself have the sensation of happiness.
“I consider this individual to pose a threat to underage females.” I am already contemplating when he resumes his presence in public spaces, and I am concerned about the potential extent of his capabilities.
Terry Godwin, a person with no prior criminal record, confessed to committing a combined total of 42 charges related to child sexual abuse, including indecent assault and gross indecency with a minor. In her defence, Rebecca Smith stated before the court: “It is evident that he has consistently expressed remorse.”
“Although it may not hold significant value, he consistently demonstrates remorse for his actions and expresses his strong disapproval of the offences he committed.” The defendant underwent multiple biopsies and surgical procedures due to a diagnosed case of achalasia, a rare swallowing disorder. He will need to confront this issue, which may provide further challenges in prison.
Terry Godwin was sentenced to seven years in prison, with a requirement to complete at least two-thirds of the sentence before being considered for release. Additionally, he was given an extra year on licence. In his sentencing, Judge Neil Flewitt KC stated that he had been presented with a highly poignant victim personal statement, in which the victim vividly detailed how your actions have had a profoundly negative and lasting impact on her entire existence.
“She persists in enduring the mental anguish caused by your actions,” she states. These emotions persist in her daily existence. I am content with the fact that your victim has experienced significant psychological distress. You provided financial compensation to dissuade her from disclosing your activities to others.
“I consider your subsequent absence of any further offensive behaviour.” You have reached the age of 39 without engaging in any additional criminal activities. I consider your poor health.
In addition, Terry Godwin received a 20-year sexual harm prevention order and a lifelong restraining order that prohibits him from contacting his victim. He will be obligated to sign the sex offenders’ registry indefinitely.
