A rapist, Tylor Munslow, who violently assaulted a lady on the day of his release from prison has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Tylor Munslow assaulted and raped his victim on the same day he was released on parole from HMP Ranby, where he had been serving a term for assault.
Nottingham Crown Court was informed that the 24-year-old assaulted his acquaintance at a car park at Bestwood Park shortly before 11:30 PM on 15 September 2023.
The court was informed that a member of the public dialled 999 after observing a visibly distraught woman in the vehicle with Tylor Munslow.
The vehicle was driven away shortly thereafter, but cops quickly found it along with the victim, who reported that she had been assaulted and raped by Tylor Munslow.
The court was informed that Tylor Munslow had consumed alcohol on the day in issue and first refuted the victim’s allegations, asserting that permission had been granted.
The case was heading for trial until Tylor Munslow, of no fixed address, changed his pleas on 8 October, pleading guilty to rape, assault by penetration and assault occasion actual bodily harm.
At his sentencing hearing on Tuesday (3 December), Judge Stuart Rafferty KC told Tylor Munslow that he accepted he suffered with mental health issues including Schizophrenia – but that his culpability for the offences remained “high”.
Judge Rafferty KC told him: “You were drinking all day and by 8pm you quite clearly were worse for drink. But from your perspective and hers, the awful thing is you still knew what you were doing.
“You set out to torture her – because that’s what this case is really about. When she said she didn’t want to have sex with you, you wouldn’t take no for an answer. She is never going to recover from what you did. She will never be a whole person again. That is down to you.”
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Gemma Rimmer, who led the investigation, said:
“I am full of admiration for this victim who has shown immense courage and dignity.
“Tylor Munslow subjected her to a violent and extremely shocking ordeal before refusing to admit what he had done for over a year. This meant the victim had to endure a lengthy and distressing legal process that verged upon a crown court trial.
“His actions that night were utterly despicable and have unsurprisingly had a very significant impact on his victim.
“As this case finally comes to an end, I would like to place on record my thanks to the victim who has shown immense bravery throughout this process.
“I hope this sentence gives her at least some degree of closure.”
