A Nelson Paedophile Umar Farooq convicted of raping and blackmailing a vulnerable adolescent has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Umar Farooq assaulted the adolescent female and subsequently threatened to disseminate intimate photographs he had captured of her without her consent.
Umar Farooq threatened the girl with slitting her throat, scalding a friend of hers with hot water, and assaulting her father if she failed to pay him. He also stated he would shatter the windows of her residence and display her nude photographs on the neighbours’ windows. The adolescent surrendered about £2,000 to him prior to reporting to the police.
Umar Farooq, born on April 24, 2003, of Smith Street, Nelson, was apprehended and indicted. He acknowledged committing charges of extortion, harassment, and the distribution and threat of distribution of private photos, however he denied raping the girl; still, he was convicted following a trial in December of the previous year.
He received a sentence of 12 years imprisonment at Preston Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday, February 19th).
Umar Farooq was designated a dangerous offender and received an extended licence period of 4 years, resulting in a total sentence of 16 years. He must serve a minimum of two-thirds of his sentence before he is able to seek for parole.
He was also subjected to a 20-year sexual harm prevention order and mandated to register as a sex offender for life. An indefinite restraining order was established to safeguard the victim.
