As part of the Metropolitan Police Service’s continuous dedication to keeping women and girls safe, a violent rapist, Victor Adegbesan Camden Rapist, has been imprisoned.

On Friday, 26 July, Victor Adegbesan, 34 (15.10. 1989) of Inverness Street, Camden, was sentenced to six years and seven months at Wood Green Crown Court. Following a Friday May trial at the same court, he was earlier found guilty of two charges of rape.

Victor Adegbesan raped the victim-survivor on Thursday, 22 July 2021, causing her an awful and terrifying experience. Met officials rapidly answered a 999 call from the victim, therefore starting an inquiry. Keeping Victor Adegbesan in detention and off the streets, the team worked around the clock to compile evidence and obtained a charge the following day.

Leading the inquiry in Camden, Detective Constable Max Orange said: “I admire the victim-survivor’s fortitude for forward reporting of this horrible crime.

“The Met assumes excellent responsibility to safeguard women and girls. I am glad we got justice for the victim-survivor, locking one more deadly predator behind bars.

“We urge anyone who has been a victim of abuse – whatever the length of time ago – to please come forward to police and get the support you rightfully deserve.”

Specialised Met detectives helped the victim-survivor both following the rape and during the complete criminal justice process. As they conducted protracted interviews with the victim, the police showed compassion and concern. To prove the degree of the abuse and create a strong case against Victor Adegbesan, the team also compiled comprehensive medical data.

As it develops A New Met for London, adding 565 personnel to specialist teams to focus on this vital job and target offenders, the Met is changing how it guards the public from harm. Investigating domestic abuse, sexual offences, child sexual abuse and exploitation, harmful practices, and safeguarding is the area of expertise of these committed teams. Officers and staff members are working more closely with partners around London as part of this dedication to safeguard victim-survivors and bring perpetrators to justice.
