UK Police have lost the Oxford Paedophile, described as a ‘dangerous’ child rapist. Vijesh Kooriyil, who absconded to India the night prior to his trial, having been granted bail and permitted to retain his passport, back in 2016.
Vijesh Kooriyil, a paedophile, repeatedly raped a six-year-old kid after confining him in his bedroom in Oxford during 2010 and 2011, as presented in court.
The 29-year-old company manager, Vijesh Kooriyil, was scheduled to stand trial four days ago but booked a flight to Delhi on Monday night, mere hours before his court appearance.
He was allowed to retain his passport under his unconditional bail conditions, given he had no prior cautions or convictions.
Vijesh Kooriyil was unanimously convicted of two counts of child rape and sentenced to an 18-year prison term at Oxford Crown Court in his absence.
A global manhunt is currently in progress to apprehend the child rapist from Eastbourne, East Sussex, for extradition to the UK to face justice.
In delivering the sentence, Judge Peter Ross characterised the assault as ‘appalling’ and stated that Vijesh Kooriyil had ‘degraded and humiliated’ his young victim.
He determined that Vijesh Kooriyil posed a threat to public safety and mandated a minimum incarceration period of 12 years before eligibility for parole.
He stated: “Vijesh Kooriyil employed the well-known methods of establishing a child’s trust.”He frequently summoned the boy to join him in play.
“While some of the games were relatively harmless, others occurred in the defendant’s bedroom. “It was there, having secured the door with string and a nail, that the defendant commenced the sexual assault of a six-year-old boy, who was then seven.”
Vijesh Kooriyil, who immigrated to the UK from India as a student, resided in Oxford during the commission of the abuse.
David Smith, the prosecutor, stated that the offences were only revealed after the youngster began his sexual education at school and recognised the nature of his experiences.
He stated, “He began to experience shame regarding his circumstances, which incited feelings of anger and confusion.”He exhibits considerable suspicion towards adults, albeit not towards youngsters. He is unable to comprehend why he acted in such a manner towards him.
Vijesh Kooriyil was apprehended in Scotland and subsequently released on unconditional bail due to the absence of prior cautions or convictions.
The police stated that his passport was not confiscated due to the unconditional nature of his court bail.
Vijesh Kooriyil was summoned by mail to appear at Oxford Crown Court for trial and attended on November 13 of the previous year to contest both accusations.
However, he did not appear on Tuesday, having ‘deceived his solicitors’ and absconded from the country prior to the judge issuing a warrant for his arrest.
Judge Ross criticised the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for charging Vijesh Kooriyil with only two counts of rape, expressing confidence that the abuse was significantly more extensive.
He stated, “The indictment prepared by the Crown is insufficient; it permits sentencing solely based on two incidents of rape.
“This is exasperating, yet there is nothing I can do to change it.
The evidence I accept indicates that the youngster was raped twice or possibly three times weekly at the height of the offences, continuing until December 2011.
Judge Ross stated that had the defendant been present, the supplementary charges may have been presented to him, allowing him to face trial for those allegations.
Nevertheless, in his absence, the indictment could not be revised.
