Said Surrey Police, 83-year-old Paedophile William Bushby of Monger’s Lane, Lewes, East Sussex, was found guilty of eight charges of indecent assault on a child. Appearing at Guildford Crown Court, he was sentenced to eighteen months in jail.

The police said the crimes happened in Woking and Pirbright, Surrey.

“Surrey Police launched an investigation after the victim came forward in 2017 and made an allegation of historical sexual abuse dating back to the late 1970s and early 1980s,” a police spokesman stated.

Following the sentence, the victim expressed happiness with the result of this case.

“Although I am somewhat down by the relative softness of the sentence, it is nonetheless a noteworthy outcome and evidence of the diligence of the Surrey Police Sexual Offences Investigation Team.

“Based on my experience, it is still essential to step forward to disclose a crime regardless of how long ago it was carried out.

“Justice and truth will find their path away. You will be taken under belief.

Investigating the offences, temporary Detective Sergeant Guy Hookway said: “William Bushby groomed the victim and utterly exploited the position of trust he was in to inflict continuous sexual assault on a youngster over the years.

“I only respect and gratitude for the victim who bravely presented proof against William Bushby before courts. With the guilty result, I hope the victim will be free to put this behind them and, at last, resume their life.
