A purported paedophile from Worthing has been apprehended in relation to the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in a churchyard in West Sussex.
Sussex Police officers were summoned to St Andrew and St Cuthman’s Church on Vicarage Lane, Steyning, at approximately 09:00 GMT on 27 March.
A 19-year-old male from Worthing, arrested the following day on suspicion of sexual assault and kidnapping, has been freed on police bail with stringent restrictions until additional enquiries are conducted, according to the police.
The police have stated that they are not seeking any further suspects in relation to the inquiry at this moment, and that patrols in the vicinity are continuing.
Det Supt Karrie Bohanna said: “Violence against women and girls is a matter we take incredibly seriously, and we will continue to work relentlessly to protect the community and hold perpetrators accountable.”
The force is encouraging anyone with information concerning the incident to come forward.
