In another appalling travesty of justice a Metropolitan Police Special Constable, Carlos Correia, has been terminated without notice due to an allegation of sexual assault and there will be no criminal proceeding.
SC Carlos Correia of the West Area Policing Command was found guilty of gross misconduct at a disciplinary hearing last week.
The hearing finishes an investigation into allegations of two instances of sexual assault against a female colleague, apparently occurring outside of the workplace.
Criminal procedures initiated by the Metropolitan Police in January 2022 concluded in February 2023. Subsequent to discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service, no additional measures were implemented.
An inquiry conducted by the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards concluded that SC Correia should undergo a gross misconduct hearing.
A hearing that finished on Tuesday, 28 January, determined that he had violated police norms of professional behaviour due to discreditable conduct established as gross misconduct. He was terminated without prior notification.
Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall stated, “I commend the officer’s bravery in reporting Special Constable Correia to the police.”
“Despite SC Correia not facing additional criminal charges, his conduct was significantly below the standards we expect from our officers.”
