Following a mother escorting her son, Darius Walker, to a South Carolina Sheriff’s Department office for him to surrender, she was subsequently arrested on a murder-related allegation.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of Khadeidra Thomas, 40, and her son, Darius Walker, 17, in relation to the deadly shooting of 15-year-old Quinton Lane on Wednesday.

Khadeidra Thomas faces charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstruction of justice, whilst Darius Walker is accused as an accessory after the fact of a felony. The criminal offence in this case is homicide. He is the third minor to be indicted in relation to the offence.

Prosecutors assert that Darius Walker concealed the firearm employed in the murder of the 15-year-old in December. An arrest warrant was issued on January 9. The police reported that Khadeidra Thomas attempted to assist her son in evading arrest and provided authorities with misleading information regarding his location.

Both the mother, Khadeidra Thomas, and son, Darius Walker, have been incarcerated at the Alvin S Glenn Detention Centre.

This month, Sheriff Leon Lott pledged to punish parents he suspects have contributed to their children’s criminal activities.

Lott stated in the release, “We will persist in holding parents accountable when they either condone or engage in their child’s criminal behaviour.”

The department did not disclose further information regarding the crime. The Independent contacted the department for a response.
