Following a violent sexual attack on a teenage lad, detectives have charged a rapist, Mohammed Darweesh, with rape. On Thursday, 18 July 2024, the incident occurred roughly in Nottingham’s Forest Recreation Ground at 11.30 pm.

The victim was walking across the park when the attack started. After an extended search by police, 24-year-old Mohammed Darweesh, without a known residence, has been charged with rape.

Mohammed Darweesh is scheduled to appear on Tuesday, August 13, at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.

Nottinghamshire Police Detective Sergeant Alan Braisby stated:

“We will keep supporting the victim and family in any manner we can; they have been advised of this significant development.

“Officials have worked very hard on the inquiry; I’m happy this suspect has been charged and presented before the courts at the earliest opportunity.”

Mohammed Darweesh, of no fixed abode, was handed an extended jail sentence of nine-and-a-half years when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Friday (28 March).

Upon release he will also be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to protect vulnerable people.

Mohammed Darweesh had pleaded guilty to rape and attempted rape.
