An Irvine paedophile sex offender, David Moir, has been incarcerated after confessing to several egregious acts. David Moir admitted guilt to six charges during a hearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last month.

The 41-year-old, David Moir, perpetrated crimes over a span exceeding 20 months.

Court documents indicate that on one occasion, between July and August 2023, David Moir sexually molested a kid who was five years old at the time.

David Moir also acknowledged accusations pertaining to the possession and the taking or allowance of obscene photos or pseudo-photographs of minors.

Both crimes occurred between December 2021 and August 2023.

He disseminated obscene material in August 2023.

He additionally admitted responsibility for revealing images without consent that depicted a female in an intimate context, which had not been previously disclosed by her, between August 23 and 24 of the same year.

David Moir’s acts were purportedly aimed at instilling dread, alarm, or discomfort in the victim.

The offender, currently incarcerated at HMP Kilmarnock, also acknowledged an additional charge concerning the transmission of a number of messages to similarly inclined individuals that were profoundly offensive or of an indecent, vulgar, or menacing nature.

David Moir transmitted texts regarding the sexual exploitation of children and a woman from November 2021 to August 2023.

Following his guilty pleas, he returned to the dock for sentencing on Friday, June 27, after background reports had been prepared.

Defending, solicitor Brian Holliman noted that a custodial sentence was going to be the “only outcome” of the hearing.

The lawyer continued: “There is next to nothing that can be said in terms of mitigation for these offences.

“He accepts responsibility. He does not seek to attach blame to any of the victims,

“He made an early plea which spared these victims becoming involved in court proceedings any further.

“He accepts the consequences of the conduct he engaged in.”

Prior to sentencing, Sheriff Colin Bissett said he had paid close attention to the 16-page report which had been prepared.

He said: “You have taken responsibility for your actions, pleaded guilty at an early stage and shown genuine remorse.

“This will have had a catastrophic effect on your life because of how awful your conduct has been.

“I need to take all that into account, but what I cannot get away from in the sentence I impose is the serious nature of these offences.

“There has been a gross breach of trust which exposed innocent people to the attention of people on the internet, sharing content which they will use for their own sexual gratification and pass on to people all over the world.

“Clearly, there can be no alternative to the imposition of a custodial sentence.”

David Moir was handed a six-year and six-month extended sentence – four years and six months of which will be spent in custody.

This was backdated to his initial remand on October 10 last year.

David Moir was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which includes measures aimed at reducing the possibility of further offending, for a period of eight years.

He was also added to the sex offenders register indefinitely.
