A convicted sex offender Paedophile from Chatham, Denis Swift, who violated a court order and neglected to adhere to sex offender notification obligations, has been swiftly incarcerated.

Denis Swift was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) following his conviction for child sex offences in 2012.

The stipulations mandated that he must not possess an internet-enabled gadget without written consent from law enforcement.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, officials visited Denis Swift’s residence to verify his adherence to the imposed limits. The culprit was apprehended after purchasing a cell phone.

Denis Swift, previously residing on Seymour Road, was charged later that day with violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and failing to adhere to sex offender notification obligations.

The 71-year-old admitted guilt and was sentenced to 12 months in prison on Wednesday, June 25, at Medway Magistrates’ Court.

PC Areolito Gashi said: ‘Court orders for convicted sex offenders such as Denis Swift are put in place to safeguard against future crimes being committed – protecting vulnerable people and preventing them from becoming victims. Denis Swift was clearly in breach of his court order and it’s right that he’s back behind bars.

‘We carry out regular checks on offenders to ensure that they are complying with the conditions on which they have been released from prison. Those who fail to adhere to them can expect to face the consequences of their actions.’
