Dion Aiye, a Whitehaven Rapist rugby league player from Cumbria has been charged with sexual assault. Dion Aiye, 35, has been indicted for an incident purportedly occurring in May. He is scheduled to appear at Workington Magistrates’ Court on November 18.
Dion Aiye, of Queen Street, Whitehaven, was suspended from his position at Whitehaven Rugby League in May.
The club issued a statement at the time, saying Dion Aiye had been suspended ‘with immediate effect’ following an incident.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “Dion Aiye, 35, of Queen Street, Whitehaven, has been charged with sexual assault and bailed to attend Workington Magistrates’ Court on November 18, 2024.”
Whitehaven Rugby League declined to comment.

Whitehaven rugby player Dion Aiye has been dismissed from the club after admitting sexual assault.
Dion Aiye, 35, of Queen Street, appeared at Workington Magistrates Court today and admitted the offence, believed to happened in May.
A statement from the club about the former captain said: “After seeking advice from the RFL the Club suspended Dion following allegations of sexual assault.
“Dion Aiye was bailed to appear at the police station to be charged or released without charge four weeks after the alleged incident.
Unfortunately the case kept being deferred with Dion Aiye not being formally charged until after the season had finished.
“The club had informed Dion Aiye that his contract would be terminated at the end of the season regardless of the outcome.
“Dion Aiye informed the club he would be pleading not guilty, therefore the club could not comment until now so as not to prejudice the case.
“Today Dion Aiye pleaded guilty to the charges set against him. Dion has now been formally dismissed by the club.
“The club would like to acknowledge the fans patience during this period of uncertainty.”
