A high school teacher from West Lothian, Jacqueline Millar, the Lothian paedophile, who engaged in a sexual connection with a young lad for a period of six months has been sentenced to 14 months in prison.
Jacqueline Millar, aged 36, engaged in sexual relations with a student whom she taught at the school. These encounters occurred in her vehicle at a quiet forested location and her residence in Livingston. The Edinburgh Sheriff Court was informed that the kid alleged engaging in sexual activity with the disgraced teacher, who had previously taught religious studies. The incident reportedly occurred in the school, where the teacher had covered the classroom windows.
The clandestine affair came to light when Jacqueline Millar was compelled to dial emergency services (999) after a confrontation between her and the adolescent occurred at her residence in March of the previous year. After the incident, the youngster was apprehended by the police and during an interrogation, he informed an officer that he had been engaged in a “sexual relationship” with the teacher for several months.
Jacqueline Millar appeared at the capital court for punishment yesterday after admitting her guilt. Sheriff Derek O’Carroll characterised her actions as “an abuse of her authority.” Sheriff O’Carroll stated that Millar had engaged in a significant amount of premeditation. He also expressed regret about the matter, especially for you.
The sheriff expressed his disappointment in stating that, based on his assessment of the seriousness of the act and the level of responsibility you bear, he sees no option other than imposing a prison sentence despite the arguments presented in your defence.
Jacqueline Millar received a prison sentence of 14 months and was required to be registered as a sex offender for ten years. The sheriff stated that Jacqueline Millar’s name would be submitted to Scottish Ministers for inclusion on the register of individuals prohibited from working with children and vulnerable adults in the future.
Defence attorney Sarah Livingstone asserted that her client was aware of having committed “a highly grave offence” but emphasised that she is not a sexual predator. Ms Livingstone stated that the accused did not have the intention to engage in sexual abuse with the complainant.
“She acknowledges that her actions were incorrect and assumes complete accountability for them.”
Jacqueline Millar admitted to participating in sexual behaviour with a minor while acting as a teacher. She acknowledged her guilt for engaging in acts of physical affection, making explicit sexual comments, exchanging sexual messages through social media and SMS, and engaging in sexual intercourse with him on multiple occasions at different places from August 1, 2021, to February 8 of the previous year.
Earlier, it was stated in court that Jacqueline Millar began working as a teacher of philosophical, religious, and moral studies at a high school in the Lothians in July 2017. The name of the school cannot be disclosed due to legal concerns. Subsequently, she was elevated to a distinct division and was characterised in the courtroom as an “ambitious and capable” person with extensive expertise and unwavering commitment to her job.
