A Sex Offender from Hartlepool, Jordan Wagstaff, received a substantial sentence today for raping, sexually abusing, and assaulting a woman he had met online and had been in a relationship with for only a few months.
Jordan Wagstaff, 26, from Hartlepool, was sentenced today to 15 years of imprisonment, with an additional three years on extended licence.
Upon the victim’s arrival from outside the region to visit him at his residence in Hartlepool, his demeanour towards her altered, resulting in her experiencing abuse throughout her week-long stay. A passerby walking near Jordan Wagstaff’s residence heard cries emanating from the location and notified the authorities.
Officers arrived and apprehended the 26-year-old, and with the assistance of highly trained personnel, the lady was able to articulate to the police the details of her experiences that week, which included rape, sexual assault, battery with a baseball bat, and threats to harm her and her dog.
Subsequently, he was indicted and underwent trial at Teesside Crown Court, where he was convicted of two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, coercing an individual to engage in sexual activity without consent, assault occasioning serious bodily damage, and threatening to disseminate a private photograph or film.
Detective Constable Nicky Wright from Cleveland Police’s Domestic Abuse Unit said: “Jordan Wagstaff is a dangerous individual who preyed on and befriended a vulnerable woman in order to abuse her.
“I would like to express thanks to the passer-by who alerted police and commend the survivor’s bravery in coming forward to disclose what had happened, along with her commitment throughout the investigation. I hope that today’s sentencing will enable her to begin to rebuild her life.
