Mark Holmes, the Newport Paedophile, who had previously been found guilty of rape has been incarcerated following a subsequent act of sexual assault committed against a woman within the confines of her residence.
Mark Holmes, a 38-year-old resident of Newport, forcefully assaulted his victim by lunging at her, covering her mouth with his hand, and after that, committing two acts of sexual assault.
He exacerbated her humiliation by subjecting her to verbal abuse throughout her ordeal.
Mark Holmes was convicted of two charges of assault by penetration by a jury after a trial in May.
The crimes were perpetrated throughout the summer of 2021.
Mark Holmes’ prior conviction for rape occurred in 2002 while he was a juvenile.
The accused committed the act of sexual assault against a 15-year-old girl on his 17th birthday and was subsequently given a sentence of 18 months of detention and training by the Cardiff Crown Court.
Owen Williams, the prosecutor, recited the victim impact statement of the woman who was subjected to physical aggression two years ago.
She expressed her sense of alienation within her residence.
“I have experienced fear preventing me from leaving my residence through the main entrance.”
“I constantly experience fear daily.”
“This has had a significant impact on my emotional well-being.”
“What actions did I undertake to merit this?”
While acting on behalf of Mark Holmes, Susan Ferrier stated that there was limited scope for her to provide any mitigating information.

During her testimony at Cardiff Crown Court, she stated: “He persistently denies his involvement in the criminal behaviour.”
Miss Ferrier stated that there is a different aspect to this individual, demonstrating the capacity for kindness and compassion.
The judge, Recorder Mark Cotter KC, informed Mark Holmes that he had forcefully attacked his victim by overpowering her and covering her lips with his hand.
“The existence of a prior conviction for a highly grave offence, despite its occurrence in the distant past, is concerning.”
The defendant received a sentence of eight years and six months of imprisonment and will be required to serve two-thirds of that term before being released on parole.
Mark Holmes is required to register as a sex offender permanently.
