Nicholas Phipps, another paedophile from the Isle of Wight, found in possession of over 8,000 obscene photos of youngsters, will discover his sentence later this year.

Nicholas Phipps, residing on Trinity Road in Ventnor, appeared before the Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, February 25.

The court was informed that he was apprehended with 558 Category A photographs of children, 1,134 Category B images, and 7,048 Category C images.

The 69-year-old, Nicholas Phipps, confessed to two violations of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order on April 25, 2023.

He also confessed to three charges of producing indecent images of a minor on the same date.

Prosecutor Leah Dillon characterised the charges as a sequence of highly grave acts, indicating that the baseline sentence is three years of incarceration.

She stated that Nicholas Phipps’ case fell beyond the jurisdiction of the magistrates’ court, and the bench concurred to refer it to the superior court.

The case of Nicholas Phipps has been postponed to March 21 at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

He was given unconditional bail till that date and subjected to police notification procedures.

Nicholas Phipps, of Trinity Road, Ventnor, was jailed for 20 months on April 10 after more than 8,000 sex abuse images of children were found on his laptop and hard drives.

The 69-year-old was caught in possession of 558 Category A images of children – the worst kind – 1,134 Category B and 7,048 Category C.

Phipps’ laptop and two hard drives were discovered hidden under his mattress by officers, and a further six drives were found in a chest of drawers.

The pensioner admitted the offences, telling officers “he couldn’t stop himself” and would look “at any kind of porn he could get his hands on.”

The IW Crown Court heard that Phipps was sentenced for gross indecency with a boy in 2001, grooming of a boy in 2016, and indecent image offences in 1996, 2017 and 2018.
