The Rochdale Paedophile depicted below is Shelim Ahmed, a convicted child molster. We already informed you that when Ahmed was 17, he participated in sexual behaviour with a minor.
Shelim Ahmed, now 37, perpetrated the acts in Rochdale in the early 2000s while the victim was 14 years old.
Shelim Ahmed intoxicated his victim prior to perpetrating the offences.
The victim, currently residing in Lancashire, reported the acts to us in October 2022. Following an extensive investigation, Ahmed admitted guilt to 15 charges of engaging in sexual contact with a minor during his appearance at Burnley Crown Court in February of this year.
Having recounted Shelim Ahmed’s actions, we now wish to convey the impact of his offences on his victim, articulated in her own words.
In a statement to the court, authorised for sharing by the victim, she remarked: “Initially, Shelim Ahmed began to offer me attention, and he was aware of my age as I frequently wore school uniform.” He would exhibit ostentation by removing his shirt, engaging in exuberant movements, and demonstrating boxing skills while in the gym.
I recall first enjoying the attention, since I had not experienced it previously. I was consistently the least favoured in my social group; I hailed from an impoverished home and considered myself the unattractive member among my peers. I consistently possessed subpar school shoes; my attire was inadequate, and I never applied cosmetics – I identified as a tomboy.
Initially, receiving attention from someone was gratifying and unfamiliar to me. I had never received compliments, and Shelim Ahmed would praise my posterior. He acquired my MSN account and sent me pics of himself clad only in boxing shorts, requesting pictures in return; I just provided him with an image of my face.
Over time, Shelim Ahmed appeared to be with me daily. He was present wherever I went. He would wait for me at the school gates, attend my swimming sessions, and consistently possess drink, particularly vodka and Red Square alcopops. During the swimming lessons, he would only stroll around the outside of the pool as though he possessed me.
As time progressed, he inundated me with booze daily and behaved as though he possessed me. This subsequently altered my emotions. I transitioned from experiencing joy due to the attention to subsequently feeling apprehensive towards him.
“I remain astounded that he was able to attend my swimming lessons, subsequently lure me outside, and then coerce me into sexual intercourse after intoxicating me with alcohol.” Following swimming, I would return home to ride my BMX with friends in the vicinity, attempting to embrace my childhood.During this period, due to his relentless insistence on supplying me with alcohol, I was perpetually intoxicated. I resorted to consuming alcohol at school, concealing it in Coca-Cola bottles. This was a recurring motif, as each day Shelim Ahmed would intoxicate me to exploit me for sexual intercourse. Each day seemed like Groundhog Day while Shelim Ahmed subjected me to this.
I ultimately conceived. At the age of 14, Shelim Ahmed instructed me to terminate the pregnancy. He accompanied me to the clinic and remained outside while I attended the appointment. I informed them that I was a year older than my actual age, adhering to Shelim Ahmed’s directive to misrepresent my age. At this juncture, I was apprehensive of him due to his arrogance and domineering nature; it was invariably his way or no other. At one instance, he compelled me to inscribe his name onto my arm. I was compelled to dress according to his instructions, and he even insisted that I colour my hair black. I was compelled to comply with his demands, particularly because he exerted influence over me by intoxicating me excessively. Upon exiting after the session, Shelim Ahmed compelled me to engage in sexual intercourse with him again.
She stated, “Had I not met Shelim Ahmed, I was a promising swimmer and proficient in boxing, which I was currently studying – I was even scouted by the Royal Navy due to my boxing skills.”
However, as a result of my conduct following Shelim Ahmed, I withdrew from all activities. I was consistently consuming booze. I ceased attending swimming galas and consumed alcohol during my GCSE examinations. I possessed no aspirations in life. I frequently had difficulties, and my alcohol consumption deteriorated to the point that I associated with individuals who used significant Class A drugs. My existence was compromised prior to its commencement. It was confiscated from me by Shelim Ahmed.
Ahmed, residing on Corbett Street in Rochdale, appeared before Burnley Crown Court this morning, where he was sentenced to 34 months in prison and mandated to register on the Sex Offenders Register. Due to Ahmed’s commission of the offence at the age of 17, he was adjudicated as a juvenile.
An indefinite restraining order was issued, prohibiting Ahmed from contacting the victim directly or indirectly.
District of Columbia Dan Healey, from the East Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, stated: “Primarily, I wish to commend the victim in this case for her extraordinary courage in initially reporting Shelim Ahmed’s reprehensible conduct to the police and for the fortitude she demonstrated throughout the judicial proceedings.”
The victim’s distressing statement clearly indicates that this offence has had a significant and lasting effect on her.
Although I refrain from commenting on the punishment, I acknowledge that Ahmed has experienced incarceration for his actions.
“I aspire that the resolution of this case empowers other victims of similar offences to come forward, assured that they will be believed and that we will exert every effort to bring their abuser to justice.”
