Eastbourne Paedophile Sivaguru Narendran died in custody at HMP Swaleside on the Isle of Sheppey.
An inquiry revealed that a paedophile doctor Sivaguru Narendran, incarcerated for the sexual abuse of adolescent boys during the 1980s and 1990s, had died while in prison.
Sivaguru Narendran passed away from natural causes at HMP Swaleside on the Isle of Sheppey.
He was transferred to Kent prison in March 2019 after initially being incarcerated at HMP Lewes two years prior.
The 79-year-old individual, Sivaguru Narendran, from Sussex was sentenced to imprisonment at Lewes Crown Court in December 2018 for 14 sexual assaults on multiple adolescent victims.
An inquiry at the Archbishop’s Palace in Maidstone revealed that Narendran entered Sheppey jail as a “frail elderly gentleman nearing the end of his life.”
In the months preceding his death, his health began to decline, necessitating the use of a wheelchair due to diminished movement and a decrease in appetite.
A report from his general practitioner indicated that Sivaguru Narendran had a history of “complex cardiac issues” and alcohol use, using half a bottle of wine daily.
A post-mortem examination determined that the cause of death was ischaemic hypertensive heart disease.
Trudy Taylor, a nurse at Sheppey prisons, testified at court that Sivaguru Narendran had been fragile and his health rapidly declined in the final month of his life.
She detailed that he was discovered deceased in his cell by prison staff on Brabazon Road, Eastchurch. Coroner Wood determined that his death resulted from natural causes.
December 2018: Received a 10-year sentence and a lifetime sexual harm prevention order in December 2018.
Former DGH physician convicted of molesting young boys at the hospital
A former physician has been convicted of many sexual offences at the DGH and health facilities in East Sussex.
Sivaguru Narendran, referred to as Dr. John Narendran, 78, of Sackville Road, Hailsham, has been charged with 17 counts of indecent assault that occurred over 20 years ago during his tenure at The Horder Centre, Crowborough, and Eastbourne District General Hospital, according to police reports.
A court was informed that Sivaguru Narendran then worked at another hospital, where in 1996 he was convicted and sentenced to 21 months in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old kid.
Sivaguru Narendran attended Lewes Crown Court, convened in Brighton, for an eight-day trial. Law enforcement officials stated that the trial revealed the earliest incident occurred in 1987, leading to the modification of charges to include 13 counts of indecent assault and one act of buggery.
He was convicted of 13 counts of indecent assault and acquitted of the charge of buggery.
According to the authorities, all the victims were young boys who interacted with Sivaguru Narendran throughout his tenure as a doctor at the two hospitals within the specified timeframes.
Sivaguru Narendran is scheduled to be sentenced at Lewes Crown Court in Brighton on Friday, December 14.
In December 2018, a 78-year-old paedophile doctor allegedly blindfolded patients as young as 12 to “help them relax” before sexually assaulting them.
A physician blindfolded victims prior to sexually abusing them over a decade-long series of abuses, a court has been informed.
Dr. John Sivaguru Narendran, 78, purportedly exploited susceptible young patients assigned to him for medical care.
It was alleged that the orthopaedic doctor compelled patients to wear blindfolds and restrained one individual to the bed throughout his assault.
A court was informed that Sivaguru Narendran then worked at another hospital, where in 1996 he was convicted and sentenced to 21 months in prison for the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy.
Yesterday, Narendran faced trial for 14 past sexual crimes involving four adolescent males between 1983 and 1996.
Hugh French, representing the prosecution, informed Brighton Crown Court that at the time of the purported offences, Sivaguru Narendran was a ‘respected’ physician employed at two hospitals in Sussex.
He stated: ‘In his capacity as a physician, he occupied a position of trust, yet he systematically exploited young boys under his care.’
Mr. French stated that four complainants separately reported having been mistreated by the doctor during his tenure at Eastbourne General District Hospital or the Horder Centre in Crowborough.
The court was informed that Sivaguru Narendran, originally from Sri Lanka, was referred to as ‘Dr. John’ and would cultivate friendships with patients sent to him for treatment.
During a video interview shown to the court, an unnamed patient stated that he consulted the orthopaedic physician for a knee injury at approximately 12 years of age in 1985.
He stated, “He was exceedingly amiable.” He appeared compassionate. He was an amiable individual.
He informed the court that following the consultation, Sivaguru Narendran proposed to engage in squash with him to assist in his recovery, an offer that was accepted by his parents.
He stated that the physician collected him in his red Ford Sierra and transported him to the hospital social club, which featured sporting amenities.
However, the complainant stated that the situation intensified during a subsequent session when the doctor escorted him to a hospital room.
He stated that he was provided with Bacardi and coke to consume, and the doctor indicated that he might assist him in enhancing his scientific knowledge by presenting him with a book on anatomy, which he would then teach him about.
The purported victim stated: ‘It was something I was interested in at that time.’ He provided me with biology instruction.
He stated, “The lessons transitioned from theoretical to practical.” He asserted that it would enhance my existence. He stated: ‘Boys of your age are unaware of their bodies, whereas others of his age could demonstrate to me.’
In a study session, he recounted being instructed to lie on a bed and thereafter blinded with a yellow scarf, with the doctor asserting that this would facilitate his relaxation.
He stated that the doctor thereafter lowered his trousers and sexually abused him. On a separate occasion, the purported victim stated that the doctor restrained him to the bed.
He asserted that the assaults occurred weekly for around one year and ceased when Sivaguru Narendran instructed him to flip over and attempted to rape him, resulting in an injury.
“My parents regarded him as a commendable individual who made an effort to assist their son.”
The court was informed that he disclosed the assaults solely after viewing a television documentary in April 2016 regarding the Jimmy Savile case.
A second individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, informed law enforcement that at the age of 14, he was directed to a physician following an ear infection.
Subsequent to the initial appointment, he was purportedly invited to the physician’s residence at the Horder Centre. It was said that he was instructed to don a blindfold before to the sexual attack.
The claimed mistreatment persisted for three to four months before he recognised its wrongdoing and ceased consultations with the doctor.
A third complainant stated that his mother scheduled a doctor’s visit for him at the Horder Centre between 1994 and 1995 when he was 15 years old.
He reported being sexually abused on more than twelve occasions over a duration of four to six months.
The jury was informed that the abuse ceased when the boy’s mother prohibited his visits, following revelations that the doctor was supplying the adolescent with alcohol and cigarettes.
The fourth complainant encountered Sivaguru Narendran while his mother was a patient at Eastbourne General from 1995 to 1996, during which the doctor proposed they convene for a game of squash.
Subsequently, he informed the police that he had been sexually attacked in both the changing room and the swimming pool.
