Officers arrested 22 persons across Essex over two days this week; a MAN has been arrested in Southend on suspicion of rape and sexual assault.

Arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault, using a poisonous substance, and displaying coercive and controlling conduct is a 30-year-old male without a fixed residence.

The arrest relates to events in Southend between 2020 and 2023; he was freed on bail until October 15, even though the police have no idea where the rapist lives?!

Apart from these 22 arrests, police conducted 11 weapons searches around the county and discovered four that are now off the streets.

Along with more than 100-speed checks, they stopped 148 cars on road patrol and impounded seven for missing insurance.

Officers attended seven public meetings to interact with community leaders and another twelve community events so residents might have a chance to meet a police officer.

“This is a 48-hour snapshot of the work we do across Essex – these arrests show you won’t evade justice,” said Superintendent Phil Stinger.

“We are working hard to drive down ASB and dissuade anyone from carrying a firearm, making our communities and cities safer.

“A lot of that work is evident in our local communities. If you have any questions and you spot our officers, do come to chat with us; we will listen.
